FRIEND CITY COUNCIL

MINUTES-REGULAR MEETING

JANUARY 3, 2017

 

 

In Mayor Vossler’s absence, City Council President, Phyllis Ryan called the regular meeting of the City Council to order at 7:00 p.m. at the City Hall.  Advanced notice of the meeting was given by publication in The Sentinel, the appointed method for giving advanced notice.  All proceedings shown were taken while the meeting was open to the attendance of the public.

 

Friend City Council President, Phyllis Ryan presided and City Clerk, Debbie Gilmer, recorded the proceedings.  The following Councilmembers were present:  Harlan Schrock, Shane Stutzman, and Stan Krause.  A quorum being present and the meeting duly convened, the following proceedings were had and done.

 

As required by the Nebraska Open Meetings Act, Phyllis Ryan announced that a copy of the Nebraska Open Meetings Act has been posted on the south door of the City Hall meeting room for all in attendance to review. 

 

Phyllis Ryan announced that public comments would be received at this time.  No comments offered.

 

Motioned by Schrock, seconded by Stutzman, to approve the Minutes of the December 6, 2016 regular meeting, and the December 2016 Treasurer's Report as presented and file same.  On roll call voting aye to approve the December 6, 2016 regular meeting minutes, and the December 2016 Treasurer's Report, Krause, Stutzman, Schrock, Ryan.  Nays none.  Motion carried.

 

A motion was made by Krause, seconded by Stutzman, that payroll and claims be approved by the claims committee, and be allowed, and the Clerk instructed to issue warrants on the respective funds to pay same.  On roll call voting aye, Schrock, Stutzman, Krause, Ryan.  Nays none.  Motion carried.

Mary Jo Weber was in attendance to report to the Council an update on her property located at 308 Maple Street.

 

Stan Krause reported to the Council that he had received information from John McKee with Jefferson County Emergency Management relating to the AlertSense Community Alert and Notification System.  The purpose of this system is to provide to the public the best way to receive alerts and notification via an app that you put on your smart phone.  Krause will forward additional information, as well as the link to register for this system to the City Clerk for distribution to anyone interested.

 

Utilities Superintendent, Patrick Gates gave his report. 

 

Police Chief, Mark McFarland gave his report.

 

Discussion was had relating to the regular date and time of the Friend City Council meetings.  Motion was made by Schrock, seconded by Krause, to continue holding the regular meetings of the Friend City Council on the first Tuesday of each month, at 7:00 p.m.  On roll call voting aye, Ryan, Stutzman, Krause, Schrock.  Nays none.  Motion carried.

 

Harlan Schrock suggested the Council consider requesting the City Attorney attend the Friend City Council meetings.  No action taken.

 

No further business to come before the City Council, motion was made by Ryan, seconded by Krause, to adjourn the meeting.  On roll call voting aye, Schrock, Krause, Ryan.  Nays none.  Stutzman absent.  Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 7:14 p.m.
