MINUTES-BUDGET HEARING & BUDGET SUMMARY
September 6, 2022
Mayor Knoke called the Budget Hearing & Budget Summary to order at 6:30 p.m. at the City Hall. Advanced notice of the meeting was given by publication in The Sentinel, the appointed method for giving advanced notice. All proceedings shown were taken while the meeting was open to the attendance of the public.
Mayor Judith Knoke presided, and City Clerk John R. Schwab recorded the proceedings. The following Councilmembers were present: Kristen Milton, David Sladek, Shane Stutzman & Jeremy Collier. A quorum being present, and the meeting duly convened, the following proceedings were had and done.
As required by the Nebraska Open Meetings Act, Mayor Knoke announced that a copy of the Nebraska Open Meetings Act has been posted on the south door of the City Hall meeting room for all in attendance to review.
Mayor Knoke introduced and read Resolution 22-05
RESOLUTION SETTING THE PROPERTY TAX REQUEST
RESOLUTION NO. 22-05
WHEREAS, Nebraska Revised Statute 77-1632 and 77-1633 provides that the Governing Body of the City of Friend passes by a majority vote a resolution or ordinance setting the tax request; and
WHEREAS, a special public hearing was held as required by law to hear and consider comments concerning the property tax request;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Governing Body of the City of Friend resolves that:
- The 2022-2023 property tax request be set at:
General Fund: $321,561.99
Bond Fund: $181,725.00
- The total assessed value of property differs from last year’s total assessed value by 2.33 percent.
- The tax rate which would levy the same amount of property taxes as last year, when multiplied by the new total assessed value of property would be 0.77345 per $100 of assessed value.
- The City of Friend proposes to adopt a property tax request that will cause its tax rate to be 0.782565 per $100 of assessed value.
- Based on the proposed property tax request and changes in other revenue, the total operating budget of the City of Friend will increase (or decrease) last year’s budget by 7.82 percent.
Motion by Stutzman, seconded by Collier to approve Resolution 22-05. On roll call voting aye Milton, Collier, Sladek, and Stutzman. Nays none.
